Candace Johnson

Child/Teen Therapist

Candace Johnson

Candace is a therapist who works with children, teens, and parents in individual and group settings. She believes every child and parent deserves a safe space where they can be understood, supported, and celebrated for who they are.

In her work, Candace uses play therapy, experiential therapy, and other creative approaches to help children and teens express themselves in ways that feel natural and comfortable. She specializes in supporting kids and families navigating neurodivergence, anxiety, and grief, tailoring her approach to meet each person’s unique needs.

Candace is also trained in working with technology addiction in teens, including video game and phone overuse. She understands the challenges parents face in today’s digital world—especially around screen time and social media—and helps families find practical ways to restore balance and connection. In addition, Candace has led group therapy sessions using Dungeons & Dragons, helping kids and teens build confidence, empathy, and social skills through storytelling and teamwork.

With over 20 years of experience working with children and teens in a variety of settings, Candace brings a rich and creative background to her practice. She received her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mercer University, as well as an MDiv from Emory and a BA in theater from Allegheny College. Candace has led Rainbows for All Children grief groups for children from age 6 through 11 and is trained in TF-CBT (trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy) and play therapy.

Candace knows that parenting can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when a child is struggling. That’s why she also works closely with parents—offering tools, insights, and encouragement to strengthen family connections and bring more calm and understanding into the home. With warmth, curiosity, and compassion, Candace partners with families to build resilience, foster emotional growth, and create lasting positive change.

Candace is mother to a 10-year-old and enjoys reading, musical theater, baking, and playing board games.

Candace is being supervised by Dr. W. David Lane, LPC, LMFT, NCC, CPCS.
