What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a relatively new form of psychotherapeutic treatment, developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003. It's grounded in the idea that the position of your eyes can affect the way you access and process traumatic memories or emotional experiences. This approach is based on the notion that traumatic experiences are stored not just in the mind, but also in the body, and that by addressing physical aspects of the trauma, deep and lasting healing can be achieved.

How does Brainspottig work?

Brainspotting works on the premise that the position of the eyes can connect with emotional and traumatic experiences stored in the brain. During a session, a trained therapist helps the client focus on a specific problem or issue while exploring different eye positions. The therapist looks for subtle reflexive responses, such as eye twitches or blinks, facial twitches, or other subtle body signals. Once a relevant eye position, or "brainspot," is identified, it is believed to access the brain's deeper neural networks where trauma and emotional issues are stored. By maintaining focus on this brainspot, clients are thought to be able to tap into the body's natural healing processes. The therapist supports the client in processing the emotions and physical sensations that emerge, allowing for the release and resolution of the stored trauma. This process is based on the concept of neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections. Brainspotting is designed to promote healing by bypassing the conscious, thinking mind and directly accessing the subcortical brain, where emotional and traumatic experiences are thought to reside.

Who can Brainspotting Benefit ?

Brainspotting can be beneficial for a wide range of individuals, particularly those dealing with emotional and psychological challenges. It is notably effective for people who have experienced trauma, whether recent or historical, as it provides a means to access and process these deep-seated experiences. Additionally, it's beneficial for those dealing with anxiety, depression, PTSD, stress, and various emotional disorders.

How can Brainspotting Help you reach your Goals?

Brainspotting helps patients achieve their goals by enabling them to process and release deep emotional and psychological issues. Through focusing on specific eye positions, patients can access and heal underlying traumas and blockages. This facilitates improvements in mental well-being and can be particularly effective for those seeking to overcome trauma, reduce anxiety, or enhance performance. By reaching deeper psychological layers, Brainspotting offers a path to profound personal growth and emotional healing.
