Dance/Movement Therapist and Counselor
Stacy Smith is a Dance/Movement Therapist (R-DMT) and Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (APC) who specializes in holistic healing through dance, movement practices, therapeutic techniques, and spiritual tools. She employs therapeutic techniques like CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing and Tapping), Solution-Focused Therapy, Play Therapy, and Attachment Therapy. As a body-based healer, Stacy integrates dance and movement practices such as Traditional West African, Dancehall, Afrobeats, Yoga, and Fitness into her work. Spiritual tools like Breathwork, Meditation, Journaling, and Nature are also integral to her approach, aiming to support the integration of the mind, body, and spirit.
Stacy holds a MA in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling from Columbia College Chicago (2011) and a BA in Dance and Sociology from Kenyon College (2009), where she also studied Dance and Social Work at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
Passionate about helping children, teenagers, women, and minorities, Stacy provides individual and group therapy sessions addressing issues like anxiety, depression, self-esteem, attachment, trauma, and family systems. Stacy has seven years of clinical experience as a school counselor and her work supported children and teenagers in navigating peer relationships, stress management, learning strategies, and family dynamics, enhancing academic success.
Beyond her clinical practice, Stacy is a professional dancer, choreographer, instructor, and mas band leader with 20 years of national and international success. In 2018, she established her dance brand, Jukeboxx Dance LLC, dedicated to inspiring, educating, and entertaining through African and Caribbean dance for happiness and healing. Her international experience spans South Africa, Nigeria, Switzerland, Belgium, Jamaica, Barbados, London, Canada, Brazil, Portugal, and Barcelona. As a special guest instructor, she has shared her expertise at Kenyon College, Columbia College Chicago, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Stacy has also performed alongside celebrity artists like Sean Paul, Busta Rhymes, Tiwa Savage, and Cardi B. Her expertise in African and Caribbean dance has graced prestigious stages, including the MTV awards, Afro-Nation, Stellar Awards, and the One Music Festival.
Stacy is under the direction of Dr. Aurelie Weinstein and under the supervision of Sedara Burson, LPC.
