Adolescent Therapy
Support & Growth for Adolescents Navigating Today’s Challenges
Are you concerned about changes in your teen’s mood, behavior, or motivation?
Adolescence is a time of tremendous change—socially, emotionally, and physically. Between academic pressure, identity exploration, friendships, and constant exposure to social media, teens today face more stress than ever.
At Georgia Family Therapy, we offer a warm, confidential space where teens can feel seen, heard, and supported as they build confidence, emotional awareness, and resilience.
Does This Sound Familiar?
It can be difficult to see your teen struggling with stress, mood changes, or self-doubt. You may notice:
Identity and direction
Adolescence brings questions about belonging, purpose, and values—many teens feel uncertain or lost during this stage of change.
Disconnection and isolation
Some teens pull away from family, lose motivation, or spend long hours online to escape stress or avoid conflict.
Anxiety and self-criticism
They may worry constantly about grades, friendships, or the future, and struggle with low self-esteem or negative body image.
Emotional ups and downs
Teens may seem irritable, withdrawn, or overwhelmed by pressure from school, friends, and social media.
If these signs sound familiar, our team can help your teen navigate emotions, strengthen relationships, and regain a sense of balance and direction.

Our Approach

We tailor each treatment plan to your teen’s unique needs, using evidence-based modalities proven to help adolescents thrive:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) & Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
Helps teens recognize unhelpful thought patterns, face fears safely, and build confidence in managing anxiety and OCD.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Teaches emotional regulation, mindfulness, and distress tolerance—tools especially useful for teens navigating mood swings and interpersonal stress.
EMDR & Brainspotting
Effective for trauma, anxiety, or difficult life experiences; these methods help the brain reprocess distress and build new emotional strength.
Art & Expressive Therapies
Creative expression through art, writing, or movement provides an outlet for emotions that are hard to express verbally.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can you work with issues related to gender identity or self-esteem?
Absolutely. Our therapists provide a nonjudgmental, inclusive space for all teens exploring identity, confidence, or belonging.
Do you offer parent sessions too?
Yes. Parents play a key role in supporting progress. We offer periodic sessions to share updates, strategies, and insights for navigating conflict, boundaries, and emotional connection at home.
What if my teen doesn’t want to come to therapy?
That’s common. We focus first on building trust and helping teens feel therapy is “for them,” not something being done to them. Once they feel heard and respected, motivation often follows naturally.
How can therapy help with social media stress or phone overuse?
We address screen time as both a coping mechanism and a stressor. Therapists help teens understand emotional triggers, reduce compulsive use, and develop mindful habits that promote healthier balance.
Is it normal for teens to pull away from their parents?
Yes. Adolescence is a time when teens seek independence and autonomy. However, therapy can help strengthen communication and maintain trust even as boundaries shift.
